Investors are always impressed when I say that our business planning is done in 15 year cycles. In this business, it is the only way. As the world becomes smaller and smaller – due in large part to the kind of ubiquitous connectivity that Intelsat provides – we have to be thinking ahead to what’s next. What’s next for our customers? What’s next for their customers? How can we help them make their business goals a reality – this year, next year, or 15 years from now?
So the idea of a 50th anniversary is, to me, a moment to not just look back on where we’ve been, but to look ahead to where we can go.
In the past 50 years, massive changes have taken place in the communications landscape and at Intelsat…from the type and consumption of entertainment to the methods and applications of communication. Yet, despite that evolution – or perhaps because of it – the entrepreneurial and innovative nature of our company continues to gain momentum. We not only keep pace; we stay ahead of the driving forces revolutionizing our sector.
That’s evident in our next generation Intelsat EpicNG satellite platform, on track to launch in 2015, and spurring the evolution of the entire industry. And it’s evident in our people, an incredibly smart, customer-focused group of individuals who are committed to connecting the world, anytime, anywhere and who continue to push the boundaries of innovation.
Fifty years ago, Intelsat envisioned a world connected through communications, and the creation of a worldwide cooperative to provide access to all countries, transforming quality of life for the entire globe. Today, we continue to envision the future, connect our customers and the world and, in doing so, transform the quality of life everywhere – in the air, on the land, at sea, in the most remote corners of the globe, the most difficult terrain and densest urban centers.
Please join me in marking this moment in time, and all that the future holds for Intelsat and our industry.
