Intelsat General Rolls out Vipersat Network for the U.S. Department of Defense

Each year, the Government Technology Research Alliance (GTRA) hosts its annual GOVTek Awards program, which honors government and industry leaders for their contributions to the IT community, their country and the ever-evolving government technology world.

Last night, GTRA announced the winners of the prestigious GOVTek Awards at a black tie gala at the Newseum. We are very proud to announce that Kay Sears, President, Intelsat General, received the “Women in Technology” award.  Since the voting for the award was split between GTRA and the community at large, this award underscores Kay’s role as a highly reputable leader in the government technology arena.

It’s no surprise that Kay’s vision, leadership and tireless drive to foster innovation played a major role in securing the award.  Leveraging more than 22 years in the satellite communications industry, including extensive experience in rapid-response solutions for both military and civilian agencies of the U.S. government, Kay is a catalyst for superior mission support, enabling the global reach of government customers.

Kay’s leadership has been acknowledged with her appointment to the judges’ panel for the “The Space Foundation’s 2010 Space Technology Hall of Fame.” Under her tenure, Intelsat General has won ISCe’s Industry Leadership Award and was recognized as a Boeing Performance Excellence Award Recipient at the Gold level of recognition for superior supplier performance.

Beyond winning many awards for herself and Intelsat General, Kay was also appointed to the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC) to provide information, technical expertise, advice and guidance regarding issues that may affect national security telecommunications capabilities.  She also serves on the Board of the Space Foundation, an international non-profit organization and the foremost industry advocate for all sectors of the space community.

Kay is a true industry leader who will continue to break down barriers for herself and Intelsat General.  Congratulation, Kay, for being recognized by the community and GTRA for being a space industry leader!
